Great Fire of London

We wondered why the fire spread so quickly in 1666 so decided to try to re-enact what happened.  Mrs Davidson drew out some narrow winding streets on the playground and our job was to try to put out the fire before it could spread too far from the bakery in Pudding Lane.  Some children were in charge of getting water from the 'River Thames' using their 'buckets', some were in charge of fighting the fire with their 'squirters' and some had to move around the streets trying to escape the flames with large cart loads of their possessions. We soon found out how hard it was to get past each other on the crowded and narrow streets of London, particularly as Mrs Davidson kept telling us that more buildings were on fire and that the wind was spreading the flames faster than we could put them out!
